Provided in this section are answers to some of the Frequently Asked Questions about the Leadership in the Public Sector Distance Education program. If you have additional questions which are not addressed here, please contact us.
Who is the distance education degree designed for?
Primarily, the program is developed for the same population served by the current degree programs. LPS is designed for students who have completed at least two years toward a four-year degree and are interested in leadership and the process of creation of public policy. Specifically, the distance education option has been developed for those who, based on geographic location, work schedules, or other restrictions, are unable to attend classes on campus and for those who prefer to complete a degree via distance education.
Is campus attendance required?
Students in the distance education program in Leadership in the Public Section are not required to attend any on-campus event. However, students are encouraged to visit the campus, avail themselves of campus resources, participate in NC State activities, and meet with advisors, faculty and other students throughout the program.
What hardware/software is required to participate in this program?
Students in the distance education program are required to have access to a computer and an internet connection. Please refer to the page detailing the technical requirements.
Will the courses in the program still be available to students who do not want to enroll in the online program or are not admitted to the program?
They may, it will depend upon consent of the course instructor.
Does the application process require taking an admissions test?
The distance education program in Leadership in the Public Sector does not require any form of admissions test.
What are the costs involved in enrolling in the distance program?
Current tuition information can be obtained through the office of Distance Education Tuition pages. In addition to tuition costs, you can expect an average of $150 to $250 per semester in textbooks. Other costs may include some hardware and software you will need, depending on the status of your computer.
Is financial aid available to students enrolled in the program?
A limited amount of grant funding is available to students who are enrolled in Distance Education degree programs or who are working towards admission to a Distance Education degree program. Criteria for funding is based on academic merit, demonstrated financial need, and enrollment in multiple DE courses per semester.
